Day 1:
Arrive Chennai : On arrival at Chennai airport. Welcome on arrival, meet-assist & transfer to hotel. Rest stay at hotel.
Day 2:
Chennai : Breakfast at the hotel. Start sightseeing of Chennai including Fort St. George built by the British in 1640 as their first fortified settlement in India. It now houses the offices of the government, the Fort Museum, and St. Mary’s Church, the oldest Anglican Church in India. India’s tallest flagstaff of 46 mts, originally the mast of a ship wrecked in the 17th century stands here.
The Marina Beach is the second longest in the world. Walk along the surf-kissed edge, coast along the Drive, relax in your shorts, take the kids to the aquarium, sip coconut water, but worshippers of the sun, beware! You’ll offend everyone if you bring out your bikini. Rumours of sharks and sharp eddies keep all but the bravest away.The San Thome Cathedral Basilica houses the mortal remains of Christ’s doubting apostle, St. Thomas. 8th century Pallava temples, Kapaleswarar and Parthasarthy are not far from each other, in Mylapore and Triplicane respectively.
The Government Museum and Art Gallery has objects of art, sculptures and carvings from the Chola, Pandya, Pallava, and the Vijayanagar periods. The same complex houses the National Art Gallery, Gallery of Contemporary Arts and a Children’s Museum. For animal enthusiasts there is the Anna Zoological Park spread out over 1265 acres. It has a safari, a nocturnal animals house, and an aquarium. The National Park at Guindy has a Deer Park, a special park for kids and the Madras Snake Park
Day 3:
Chennai – Kanchipuram – Mahabalipuram : After breakfast leave by road for Mahabalipuram. Enroute visit Kanchipuram - The ‘City of a Thousand Temples’ is one of the seven holy cities of the Hindus. Only 126 temples remain in Kanchipuram now but the town still attracts visitors from around the country. Pilgrims, customers of silk, and the simply curious come to see the numerous carved temples and participate in the bustle of this busy town.The town is home to several important temples, and perhaps the most important among these is the Ekambareswar. EkambareswarTemple, The 8th century Vaikuntha Perumal Temple was built by the Pallavas and is adorned with carved panels showing the Pallavas in battle. This is a Vishnu (the Preserver) temple. The VaradarajaTemple is testimony to the expertise of the Vijayanagar artisans. Its 100-pillared hall is exquisitely embellished with carvings. The 8th century Pallava rulers made the KailasnathaTemple. The Kamakshi Amman Temple is not dedicated to a single god but to the spiritual worldview of its founder, Shankara. Day 4:
Mahabalipuram : After breakfast start sightseeing of Mahabaliopuram - the coastal town of Mahabalipuram or Mammalapuram is a must-visit destination if you are in the south India. The Rath Temples are among the most famous temples in India partly for their age and partly for their quirky architecture. These Pallava temples were carved out of huge rocks and though the coarse sea air is taking its toll and some of the structures were left incomplete, they attract scores of visitors every year.
The Mahabalipuram temples are probably the earliest specimens of Dravidian architecture. No longer active as temples, they are prized for their architectural value. The ruling Pallavas ordered their construction around the 8th century.
Day 5:
Mahabalipuram – Pondicherry: Breakfast at the hotel. Leave by road for Pondicherry. On arrival transfer to the hotel.
Day 6:
Pondicherry: Breakfast at the hotel. Start sightseeing of Pondicherry, the costal town of India basically divided into two parts. One side of the local canal ‘Pondicherry’ still retains much of its French flavour. This part of the sometime capital of French India is the setting for Aurobindo Ashram, the roads are called Rue and the local Bazaar is on St. Laurent Street. It is one of the last sites of a certain European genteelness that most of India has lost. On the other side of the canal, you’ll find ‘Puducherry’, a small time South Indian town where the flavours aren’t basil and thyme but curry leaves and roasting rai seeds.
Day 7:
Pondicherry– Tanjore : After breakfast drive to Tanjore. Enroute visit Chidambaram, Kumbakonam and Darasuram.
Chidambaram, also called as Thillai, which has the famous Nataraja temple with the root of the sanctum-sanctorum covered with golden plates is located in the centre of the town covering an area of 40 acres.
The top roof of the sanctum sanctorum is covered with gold plates and strings. The Temple is Closed between – 12.00 PM to 04.00 PM.
Continue and visit Darasuram - the name Darasuram is said to be a corruption of the original name Rajarajapuram, and this temple - smaller than the Periya Kovil and Gangai Konda Choleeswaram dates back to Raja Raja II's period (12th century AD).
The Periya Nayaki Amman temple stands out as a separate temple because the outer walls of the temple have disappeared with the passage of time, unlike the original Periya Kovil in Thanjavur. Darasuram is described as a sculptor's dream re-lived in stone. The front mandapam itself is in the form of a huge chariot drawn by horses. Paintings and sculptured panels abound here, causing this shrine to be a veritable storehouse of art.
The Vimanam is only about 80 feet in height. In front of the temple are stone panels which produce tones of varying pitches when struck.
Continue drive and visit Kumbakonam - This is an ancient temple dedicated to Shiva in the heart of the town. The Mahamakham tank where the Makham festival takes place once in 12 years is associated with this temple. The temple is said to be over 1300 years old. The Saivite Saints have sung its praise. The Chola and Naik Kings patronized this temple. The temple is in possession of two granite Nadaswarams (oboes).
Arrive Tanjore and transfer to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 8:
Tanjore – Trichy : After breakfast at the hotel start sightseeing of Tanjore - the "Rice bowl of Tamil Nadu" and famous for the Brahadeeswarar Temple. The temple was constructed more than thousand years ago by the King Rajarajan, is an architect's marvel. It is a flourishing centre for bronze sculpture and painting.
Best attractions of Tanjore the ancient temples dedicated to Lord Ganapathi, 434 steps cut out into the rockside and interspersed with shrines, lead to the temple. Visit Srirangam, a massive temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu which contains within its walls a Bazaar as well.
PM: Drive towards Trichy and on arrival transfer to the hotel.
Day 9:
Trichy – Madurai: After breakfast start sightseeing of Trichy - the citadel of the Chola dynasty in the medieval period. In the 18th century it witnessed the Carnatic wars fought between the French and the English. Lord Robert Clive's house is still there to see and so is the Danish Church. The Rock-Fort is the landmark of Trichy. A climb of 434 steps leads to the ancient temple of Ganapati on top and a further climb to a Shiva temple.
PM: Drive towards Madurai and on arrival transfer to the hotel.

Madurai: Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing of Madurai- One of South India's great temple towns, Madurai is synonymous with the celebrated Meenakshi Temple. Situated on the banks of river Vaigai, Madurai has a rich cultural heritage passed on from the great Tamil era more than 2500 years old. Madurai was an important cultural and commercial centre even as early as 550 AD. It was the capital city for the great Pandya kings.

Kodaikanal : After breakfast full day sightseeing of Kodaikanal located amidst the folds of the verdant Pali hills is one of the most popular serene hill stations in India, which mesmerises any visitor. AGRA:-Agra was once the capital of the Mughal empire and even today it seems to linger in the past. Not surprising, for the Mughal emperors with their passion for building, endowed the city with some of the finest structures in the world. It is very easy to slip away here through the centuries into the grandeur and intrigues of the Mughal court.
Agra is an old city and it is said that its name was derived from Agrabana, a forest thats finds mention in the epic Mahabharta. In more recent times Agra came into prominence when Sikandar Lodi made it his capital city in 1501. The Lodi rule was to end very soon and Agra passed into the possession of the Mughals.
