Backing onto the forest-covered slopes of the Himalayan foothills, Corbett is India’s first (and one of the finest) national parks. Founded by Jim Corbett, a former tiger hunter turned conservationist, the park was named in his honor. In 1974 the famous Project Tiger was launched at Corbett National Park in an endeavor to save this majestic cat from extinction. Since then tiger numbers have steadily increased. Many other endangered species such as the hog deer, Sloth Bear and crocodile-like Gharial also find sanctuary here, with over 500 species of birds.
Noted not just for its rich and varied wildlife but also its picturesque, magnificent landscapes and Himalayan mountain backdrop. Easily accessible from Delhi, Rishikesh and Almora, Corbett is an extension perfect for the wildlife enthusiast. Accommodation at the Tiger Camp is located on the periphery of the national park surrounded by thick jungle and the Kosi River. Complete with western comforts the Tiger Camp is a fun and atmospheric place to stay.
Day 1:
Arrive in Ramnagar and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2-3:
Rise early for a dawn game drive as this is one of the best times to see wildlife, although seeing a tiger is more a question of luck! The game drive will take around four hours and we will return to the hotel for a late breakfast. Depart again in the afternoon for another game drive.
Day 4:
Enjoy one last jeep safari before your departure.
Want more? Combines well with Ananda Spa in the Himalayas and Almora Himalaya Experience.
